THE GUIDING THESIS
Credit and collections are the invisible engine that makes the economy run. Behind every dream that fits in someone’s wallet, there’s someone approving a limit, organizing cash, building conditions. That’s the work Marco chose — and it funds the most precious asset there is: education.

Customer service, credit recovery, and operations at scale — always on the frontier between technology and what it means to whoever is on the other side.
Collections Lab
He joined the firm's global hub for collections excellence, headquartered in São Paulo. McKinsey's choice of Brazil as the base was no accident: the country has more than 60 years of mature credit market — bureaus such as SPC Brasil and Serasa emerged in the 1960s — and the complexity of the local economy (high interest rates, chronic delinquency, unstable macro cycles) turned Brazilians into a global reference in collections. He piloted digital tools, segmentation models and negotiation strategies across projects in Latin America, the United States, China and Europe, exporting to the world the know-how built in Brazil. Collections is not coercion — it is incentive architecture.
Pioneering digital collections in Brazil
He led the build-out, from scratch, of one of Brazil's first 100% digital collections departments — designing the cadence, channels, contact models and operating playbook, setting standards much of the market still follows today. He also took part in the holding company's (Clash) M&A cycle, including the 2022 acquisition of Intervalor — one of Brazil's leading credit and collections players, spun out of Germany's Bertelsmann group (Arvato Financial Solutions) — and the accelerated post-deal growth, which projected R$ 200 million in revenue right after integration. The right channel at the right time returns the customer — and the payment.
Default at scale, under market scrutiny
He deployed strategies to reduce delinquency and involuntary churn in one of Brazil's largest telecom operations — more than 60 million active customers, a publicly listed company on B3, under quarterly market scrutiny. The challenge in mobile telecom is singular: low ticket, an extremely short recovery window (a customer switches carriers within days) and a structurally hard-to-recover debtor profile. Each point of avoided churn shows up in the share price. A recovered customer is worth more than a collected one.
Operations under pressure
He worked in one of the most sensitive customer-service contexts in Brazil. Aviation runs with one of the highest call rates in any industry: every customer mid-journey — a delay, a missed connection, lost baggage, a cancelled flight, a problem at an airport on the other side of the world — needs a solution in minutes, not hours. A 24/7 operation, more than 100 destinations across Brazil, flights to the United States, Portugal and South America, with complex itineraries and real lives riding on each decision. The lesson that stuck: a good process is one that survives the worst-case scenario.
Co-founder · VP of Operations · today
He co-founded Principia, the AI Operating System for Education with embedded financial solutions, focused on Latin America. Today the ecosystem serves more than 760,000 students and 1,200 educational institutions, with more than R$ 2 billion in credit portfolio under management. He operates in a sector with massive structural challenges in Brazil — 57% dropout in higher education (61% in private institutions, according to Semesp's Mapa do Ensino Superior) and 1 in 3 students with tuition in arrears (Sponte/Linx). He leads operations, designing data-driven strategies that tackle the two biggest problems of Brazilian higher education: default and dropout. Principia is part of the Endeavor (ScaleUp Ventures) network.

MASTER’S THESIS
Defended at Must University (Florida, USA) in 2025 under the advisory of Prof. Michelle Patrícia Paulista da Rocha, the research investigates how machine learning (XGBoost, Random Forest, SVM) — when integrated with academic systems such as LMS and ERP — can anticipate and prevent student dropout and financial delinquency in higher education. It is the intellectual foundation of what Marco applies at Principia today.

THREE OFFICIAL TOPICS
How to build and evolve credit operations that scale — from underwriting to recovery. Lessons from the McKinsey Lab to Principia. What changes when data becomes the protagonist.
Collections as incentive architecture, not coercion. Dynamic cadence, native channel integration (WhatsApp, voice, email), AI agents negotiating. How to size capacity across human and digital.
Embedded finance, BNPL, omnichannel. How the future of payments takes shape at the boundary between channels — and why that has become architecture, not a feature.
BOARD OF DIRECTORS AND ADVISORY
